About us

Mission
To create emotionally rich media that celebrates culture, uplifts untold stories, and sparks connection across communities. First-in-class, classic storytelling powered by modern tools for efficient, on-time delivery.

Vision
We envision a world where media reflects the full spectrum of human experience — diverse, complex, and transformative. Through storytelling, we aim to inspire change, honor heritage, and ignite conversations that shape the future.

Ethos

  • Cultural Integrity — We honor the stories we tell with respect and authenticity.

  • Bold Storytelling — We take risks that challenge conventions and open new perspectives.

  • Impact First — Our projects are designed to inform, inspire, and leave a lasting imprint.

  • Collaboration — We believe the best stories are told when curious voices come together.

Founder - Marcia A. Cole

I’m Marcia Cole, founder of Amitarra Studios. For decades, I’ve worked as a content director, executive editor, producer, creative director, and creative content agency owner — shaping narratives across media, entertainment, and brand storytelling.

I’ve brought stories to life for companies like Time Inc., Essence, Latina, L’Oréal, Ouidad, Canyon Ranch, and more — blending editorial instinct with cultural fluency and a deep understanding of emotional storytelling.

My journey has always centered on elevating voices, capturing truth, and creating content that resonates deeply with audiences. I’ve had the honor of launching or relaunching new and legacy brands. And, along the way, I've been first — many times over:

  • First journalist to profile Tyler Perry for The New York Times.

  • First Juror Chair for the Waco International Family & Faith Film Festival.

  • First editor hired for Suede magazine (Deputy Editor, Lifestyle).

  • First to photograph Brandy in a fashion spread, resulting in one of the images becoming her debut album cover (Hype Hair).

  • First Beauty & Style Producer at Latina.com.

  • First to put the women in Hip Hop (Lauryn Hill, Queen Latifah, Yo-Yo & Mc Lyte) on a gatefold magazine cover (Hype Hair).

  • First editor to book celebrity covers for Heart & Soul magazine.

  • First editor to launch a natural hair magazine, Braids & Beauty.

  • First editor to teach a course at the Bronner Brothers Show ("How to Break Into Editorial Hairstyling").

  • First to launch one of the earliest beauty and fashion websites for women of color (Ambermag.com)— and to produce college beauty tours across the U.S.

  • First Jamaican to be a winner of British Vogue's annual writing competition.

With Amitarra Studios, I’m bringing those years of experience into a new chapter — one where classic storytelling and modern tools combine to deliver work that is timely, powerful, and enduring.

American Poet Jack Gilbert once asked a student who said she wanted to be a writer: "Do you have the courage to bring forth this work? The treasures that are hidden inside you are hoping you will say yes."

In this new chapter, I'm developing all of my hidden treasures — on big and small screens.

Let's make magic, together!
